Sandy the Seahorse Amigurumi

Create your very own adorable seahorse Amigurumi with this free seahorse crochet pattern! This beginner friendly crochet project is quick and easy, perfect for using up leftover yarn. I love making mini sea animals because they come together in just a few hours, making them the perfect last-minute gift.

For the smaller seahorse amigurumi, I used sport weight cotton yarn, and for the larger one, I chose soft chenille Super Bulky plush yarn. You can use any yarn that your like to create this cute sea animal.

Materials:
These are the materials that I used for this seahorse. You can replace them with other materials. If you wish to crochet a larger or smaller version of this little sea animal pattern you can just use a thicker or thinner yarn/crochet hook.

Cotton Sport Weight version 9 cm / 4 inch:
– Blue Yarn and Colors must have color 074 – 10 gram
– Yellow Yarn and Colors must have color 014 – 5 gram
– Safety eyes 8 mm
– Synthetic Poly Filling
– Crochet hook size 2.5 mm

Chenille Super Bulky version 23 cm / 9 inch:
– Blue Chenille yarn
– Yellow Chenille yarn
– Safety eyes 18 mm
– Synthetic Poly Filling
– Crochet hook size 5.0 mm

Supplies:
– Scissors
– Tapestry needles with blunt point, nr. 16 or 17
– Pins

TIP: Are you using are using Blanket yarn? Then I recommend a 8.0 mm crochet hook.
For Bulky Velvet yarn I recommend a 3.5 mm crochet hook.

Abbreviations used in this cute crochet pattern:
(All abbreviations are explained in my basic stitches tutorial)
Rnd: Round
st: stitch
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
dec: decrease
inc: increase

Body:

Snout:

  • Use blue yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 3 times (9)
  • Rnd 3-4: sc in all 9 st (9)
  • Rnd 5: (sc in next st, dec in next st) repeat 3 times (6)
  • Fasten off, leave a long piece of yarn to sew the snout onto the body.
  • Sew the snout between the eyes on rounds 9 and 10. (photo 1-3)

Mane 4x:

  • Use yellow yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 4 sc in a magic ring (4)
  • Rnd 2: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (6)
  • Fasten off, leave a long piece of yarn to sew the manes onto the body.
  • Sew 1 mane part on the front of the body, on rounds 2-4.
  • Sew the other mane parts on the backside of the boy, one on rounds 1-3, on rounds 5-7 and one on round 9-11.

Dorsal fin:

  • Use yellow yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 3 times (9)
  • Rnd 3: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 3 times (12)
  • Fasten off, leave a long piece of yarn to sew the dorsal fin onto the body.
  • Flatten the Dorsal fin and sew round 3 together. (photo 4 and 5)
  • Sew the dorsal fin between rounds 17-18.
