What Is a Half Hexagon Granny Horizontal?
As the name suggests, this motif isĀ half of a classic granny hexagon, but with a horizontal orientation. That means itās wider than it is tall, perfect forĀ filling in the top and bottom edgesĀ of your hexagon-based creations when the motifs are arranged in rows.
You can think of it as the ābookendā of your hexagon blanket, cardigan, or any modular design, allowing you toĀ square offĀ the top and bottom without distorting the overall shape.

Chain(s): ch(s):Ā Yarn over, pull through loop on the hook.
Slip Stitch(s): ss(s):Ā Insert hook, yarn over, pull through stitch and loop on hook.
Treble Crochet(s): tr(s): Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

You are viewing this pattern in UK terms.
Ch 4 and ss in first st to form a circle.
Row 1: 4 ch (counts as tr and 1 ch here and throughout), into ring work [3 tr, 1 ch] three times, tr. Turn. (3 granny sets, 2 tr, 4 ch sps.)
Row 2: 3 ch (counts as tr here and throughout), tr in ch sp, *[3 tr, 1 ch, 3 tr] in next ch sp, rep from * once more, 2 tr in next ch sp. Turn. (4 granny sets, 4 tr, 2 ch sps.)
Row 3: 4 ch, 3 tr in next sp between granny sets, *[3 tr, 1 ch, 3 tr] in next ch sp, 3 tr in next sp between granny sets, rep from * once more, 1 ch, skip next st, tr in top of 3-ch. Turn. (7 granny sets, 2 tr, 4 ch sps.)

Row 4: 3 ch, tr in ch sp. *[3 tr in next space between granny sets] to ch sp, [3 tr, 1 ch, 3 tr] in next ch sp, rep from * once more, [3 tr in next sp between granny sets] to ch sp, 2 tr in ch sp. Turn. (8 granny sets, 4 tr, 2 ch sps.)

Rep Rows 4 and 5 until desired size.
Fasten off and sew in ends.
