Savannah Bucket Hat

Yarn & Alternatives

Stylecraft Savannah comes in six different colourways, I have used shade Canyon 3794.

Alternative Yarn Suggestions

If you want to raid your stash or use an alternative yarn, here are a few that I recommend:

Pattern Notes

  • Written in UK terms but switchable to US terms below, or CLICK HERE for a free conversion chart.
  • This pattern is worked in an amigurumi style in rounds without joining unless otherwise stated.
  • Whilst the pattern is split into sections, you will not be fastening off your yarn.
  • When adding a new ball of yarn, you may wish to unwind the first section of yarn in order to start from the coloured section.
  • Move your stitch markers up with each round using the different colour stitch marker as your ‘BOR’ (Beginning of row)

Gauge & Size

  • The crown will measure approx 12.5cm (5inch) after 12 rounds
  • Crown diameter: 17cm (63/4inch) approx
  • Sides: 69cm (2.5inch) approx. Hat circumference: 53cm (22inch) approx
  • Brim depth: 8cm (31/4inch) approx

Struggle With Tension?

If you struggle with your tension and often find you are not reaching gauge I have a couple of videos to help you:

Crown

  • Make a magic ring
  • Starting round 1: Ch1 (does not count as st) and work 6dc in ring. Pull ring closed
  • Round 2: Work 2dc in the first st (Place your ‘starting marker’ in the first dc made), 2dc in each st around.
  • From this point forward, move your ‘starting marker’ up as you start each round.
  • Round 3: (2dc in next st, dc in next st) 6 times.
  • Round 4: (2dc in next st, dc in next 2st) 6 times.
  • Round 5: (2dc in next st, dc in next 3st) 6 times.
  • Round 6: (2dc in next st, dc in next 4st) 6 times.
  • Round 7: (2dc in next st [place marker in first st], dc in next 5) 6 times.

You will now have a total of 6 stitch markers, these will indicate where to work your increases from this point forward. Your ‘BOR’ indicates the beginning of the round. From here, move marker up to the first st of each increase.
