Crochet Gladiolus Flower – Free Crochet Birth Flower August –

Today I am sharing with you my Crochet Gladiolus Flower Pattern to celebrate all of those born during August. The Gladiolus flower is believed to represent faithfulness, strength of character and also remembrance. These beautiful flowers bloom from a single stem which is filled with flowers and buds. A flower that comes in a huge range of colours therefore, you can crochet a flower stem to suite everyone.

The second birth flower for August is the Poppy flower. This beautiful symbolic flower symbolizes peace, calm and beauty. If you would like to make my Crochet Poppy Birth Flower click HERE.

This is an easy crochet flower pattern to create, which you can make with any yarn and a matching-sized crochet hook (although you do want to keep your stitches tight, so use the smallest crochet hook you can for your sized yarn). Depending on the size of yarn you use will increase or decrease your flower size, but I can promise they will all be beautiful. To create a realistic spray of flowers, you will need 2 large flowers, 2 small flowers and 2 buds.

My free pattern includes the step by step tutorial to crochet the Large flower ONLY. If you would like to support me to continue creating FREE PATTERNS, you can purchase the full PDF pattern including all flowers and buds in my Webshop or in my Etsy for only $1.99.

My free Crochet Gladiolus pattern is written below with a simple step by step written | photo tutorial. Or if you prefer a video tutorial, I have also made a Youtube video.

Step 1: Using the long tail of the petal, sew the base of the petal together as shown to create a pinched petal. Fasten off and weave in your end.

Step 2: Insert the 10cm length of florist wire into the base of the petal and fold in half to secure as shown in the photo below. Repeat for the remaining 5 petals.

Step 3: Arrange the first petal (double coloured) and 2 plain petals in a trio as shown in the photo below.

Step 4: Arrange the remaining 3 petals between each petal as shown. Twist the wires together to create a single stem.

Step 5: Now your Crochet Gladiolus flower is complete. If you wish, you can wrap green thread around your wire to finish your flower. If you would like to make the full Gladiolus stem, the step by step written | photo tutorial is available to buy as a PDF pattern HERE.
