Crochet Lily of the Valley

Today I am sharing with you my Crochet Lily of the Valley Pattern to celebrate all of those born during May. The sweet scented Lily of the Valley flowers are a woodland wildflower which bloom in the Spring. Lily of the Valley flowers symbolize sweetness, purity and joy. They also represent humility, innocence and love.

The second birth flower for May is the Hawthorn flower. This beautiful 5 petaled flower symbolizes symbolizes hope, happiness and the protective nature of people born in this month. If you would like to make my Crochet Hawthorn Birth Flower click HERE.

This is a easy crochet flower pattern to create which you can make with any yarn and matching sized crochet hook (although you do want to keep your stitches tight, so use the smallest crochet hook you can for your sized yarn). Depending on the size of yarn you use will increase or decrease your sized flower, but I can promise they will all be beautiful. To create a realistic spray you will need a between 5 -7 flowers.

My free pattern includes the step by step tutorial to crochet the flower ONLY. If you would like to support me to continue creating FREE PATTERNS, you can purchase the full PDF pattern including Flower and Leaf tutorial in my Webshop or in my Etsy for only $1.99.

How to Assemble Crochet Lily of the Valley

Step 1: Cut the florist wire into a 40cm piece โ€“ this will be the main stem. Cut as many 5cm pieces as you require for the remaining flowers.

Step 2: Bend the long florist wire in half, thread this through the base of a flower, pinch with pliers to secure around the flower as shown in the photo. Repeat this process with the short pieces of wire for the remaining flowers.

Step 3: Starting with the small stems, thread a 50cm meter piece of green yarn through the base of the flower, carefully wrap the yarn around the folded wire until you reach 1-2cm from the end. Cut the yarn.

Step 4: Thread a 2 meter piece of green yarn through the base of the main stem, carefully wrap the yarn around the folded wire until you reach 4-6 cm from the base of the flower. Align a smaller stem continue to wrap the yarn around both wires as shown in the photo.

Step 5: Continue to add flower stems at 3-4cm interval until all the flowers are encased in the main stem. Next fold the tips of the wire, up against the stem, continue wrapping the yarn around all the wires (this will create a smooth tip), once you reach the end. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
