About the Stitch

Unlike traditional mesh stitches that tend to be loose and drapey, the Sturdy Mesh Stitch is designed for projects that require both strength and flexibility. This stitch uses a combination of chain stitches and double and treble crochet stitches to create a tight yet openwork effect.

Pattern Use Ideas

  • Market and tote bags: Holds shape and prevents sagging.
  • Lightweight summer wearables: Allows breathability while maintaining structure.
  • Household items: Perfect for baskets, placemats, and decorative wall hangings.

Pattern Notes

  • Written in UK terms but switchable to US terms below.
  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Stitch Multiple: 4 + 3
