How to make a Bunny Bookmark: Free Crochet Pattern

  • Yarn A: 1 ball of Stylecraft Classique Cotton DK (#3), 100% Cotton, 50g (1.8oz), 92m (100yds), in shade Fondant
  • Yarn B: 1 ball of Drops Paris DK (#3), 100% Cotton, 50g (1.8oz), 175m (82yds), in shade 16. Since the release of this pattern this yarn has now been discontinued please see below for alternative yarns.

Terms & Abbreviations

Chain(s): ch(s): Yarn over, pull through.

Place Marker: PM: Place a stitch marker in indicated stitch.

Slip Stitch(s): ss(s):
Insert hook, yarn over pull through stitch and loop on hook.

Double Crochet(s): dc(s):
Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will
have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

Half Treble Crochet(s): htr(s):
Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop,
you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining three loops.

You will be making your bookmark in three parts. This consists of two bunny ears and the bookmark section.

You will be sewing the sections together.

Free Pattern: Bunny Bookmark

You are viewing this pattern in UK terms.

Ears (make 2)

With Colour A, ch 7

Row 1: Dc in second ch from hook (missed ch does not count) and next 4 sts. Work 3 dc in last ch, rotating work to work on the underside of the ch. Dc in next 5 chs changing to colour B in last pull through of last st. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as st here or throughout), dc in first st, htr in next 2 sts, dc in next 3 sts, (dc, htr, dc) in next st. Dc in next 3 sts, htr in next 2 sts, dc in last st. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, Dc in first st and next 6 sts. Work 3 dc in next st, dc in remaining 7 sts. Do not fasten off.

Turn work to work down row ends (base of bunny ears).

Row 1: Dc in each row end across, fasten off. Leaving a long tail end for sewing.

Sew in all ends except long tail end.

For each ear, fold the outer edges of the bottom of the ear (row 1) into the middle and sew into place with long tail end. Sew in remaining end.

Bookmark

Using Colour B, ch 9.

Row 1: Working in back bump of the ch, dc in second ch from the hook (missed ch does not count as st) and each st across. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, htr in each st across. Turn.

Repeat row 2 until you reach your desired length.

Final row: Ch 1, dc across. Do not fasten off.

Bunny Bum

Continuing on from bookmark section.

Row 1-2: Ch 1, dc across. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, dc in first 3 sts. (3 tr in next st) twice. Remove hook from loop and insert from back to front through the first tr, place working loop back on hook and pull though loop, ch 1, dc in last 3 sts. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, dc across. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, miss first st, dc in next 6 sts, ss in last st. Fasten off and sew in ends.

Attaching Ears

You will now be attaching the bunny ears to the opposite short end to the bunny tail. Both bunny tail and bunny ears will be facing towards you. Using colour B and a darning needle, sew bunny ears to the top of the bookmark
